During a town hall meeting with stakeholders in the Gwagwalada area council, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), granted area councils in Abuja the permission to demolish uncompleted structures.

Wike emphasized that the demolition would serve to eliminate hideouts and safe havens used by criminals.

In the meeting, Wike directed the chairman of the area council to submit a letter requesting approval for the demolition by Monday, January 22nd, 2024. He urged prompt action and emphasized the significance of addressing the issue quickly.

Wike also revealed that some informants of kidnappers had been apprehended in the FCT amidst the alarming increase in insecurity. The decision to demolish uncompleted structures comes as a response to recent incidents, including the killing of three out of ten victims who were abducted due to a delay in paying a ransom exceeding N700 million in an Abuja community.
