The Nigerian federal government is dedicated to investing in the harmonization of the nation’s data, with a focus on the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made this commitment and shared the information via a tweet from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre’s official Twitter account on Thursday.

Tunji-Ojo emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to the program’s success and assured that the era of multiple ID registrations would soon come to an end. He explained that NIMC has received a mandate to harmonize Nigeria’s database as part of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s efforts to enhance the identity and security framework for Nigerians. This approach aims to alleviate the burden of multiple IDs, providing savings in terms of stress, cost, and energy while optimizing processes.

The Minister stated, “There is no need for us to have a BVN number, a Voter’s Card number, a NIN, and a Passport Number all at once. And this is why we have to work with @nimc_ng to ensure that we harmonize all these and do away with the duplications.”

He also highlighted the benefits of data harmonization, including improved information exchange among agencies. With harmonized data, individuals can use their NIN (National Identification Number) for various purposes, such as obtaining a passport or BVN (Bank Verification Number), without the need for redundant registrations. This move is expected to streamline and enhance the efficiency of government processes.
