In response to the ongoing controversy surrounding a consultancy contract worth N438 million awarded to New Planet Project Limited by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, President Bola Tinubu has urgently called for a meeting with the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The invitation comes as scrutiny intensifies over allegations of a possible conflict of interest and abuse of office in the contract award, given Tunji-Ojo’s admitted connection to the beneficiary company. Although the minister has denied any current involvement in the company, his ties to New Planet Project Ltd have raised concerns.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs awarded multiple contracts totaling N3 billion for the National Social Register program, leading to accusations of corruption and resulting in the suspension of Minister Betta Edu pending investigations.

President Tinubu’s swift response involves summoning Tunji-Ojo to provide explanations regarding his company’s role and to establish his level of involvement. The Interior Minister’s responses and defense during the meeting with the President may determine whether he also faces suspension, similar to Edu, in connection with the ongoing scandal within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
