The Federal government is emphasizing the need for inter-ministerial collaboration to address the issues of illegal migration and human trafficking.

During a courtesy visit to the Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja, Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, stressed the urgency to tackle the root causes of poverty and humanitarian crises, which she identified as insecurity, illegal migration, and human trafficking.

Edu assured the interior minister that the National Social Register would be expanded to include families and widows of ex-servicemen within the paramilitary organization. Additionally, inmates of the Nigeria Correctional Services would be included to benefit from skill acquisition programs implemented by her ministry.

To achieve the desired outcomes, Edu emphasized the importance of effective and sustainable inter-ministerial collaboration. This synergy would enable her ministry to gather the necessary intelligence and effectively coordinate responses to any humanitarian crisis.

Edu also highlighted the need for intelligence sharing, expressing the approval for officers from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to be present at different ports. She stressed the significance of collaboration with the Ministry of Interior regarding border control, noting the importance of enhancing intelligence capabilities within Nigeria due to the presence of numerous illegal borders.
