Security Forces Assume Control of Kogi REC’s Residence Following Attack

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed an attack on the residence of Dr. Gabriel Longpet, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Commissioner of Police in Lokoja, Mr. Bethrand Onuoha, described the incident as “very unfortunate and wicked” during a statement to the press on Friday.

According to Onuoha, the attackers arrived at the REC’s residence at around 3:00 am on Friday but faced strong resistance from security personnel. He expressed relief that the hoodlums were unable to carry out their nefarious act as the officers bravely repelled the attack and set fire to the vehicle used by the attackers.

Presently, soldiers have been deployed to secure the residence, working alongside police personnel to ensure safety. Additionally, heavily armed soldiers and policemen are stationed at all junctions near the house and the INEC office to prevent any further incidents. The heightened security measures aim to forestall any potential threats and maintain a secure environment.
