The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a forecast for hazy and thundery weather conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.

NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Saturday in Abuja, predicts the presence of dust haze over the Northern region during this period. There are prospects of thunderstorms occurring in parts of Taraba and Kaduna states during the afternoon and evening hours.

For the North Central region, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is expected. There are chances of thunderstorms in parts of Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory during the afternoon and evening.

In the Southern region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are anticipated for inland states and coastal cities. Morning thunderstorms are likely in parts of Lagos state, followed by afternoon and evening thunderstorms in Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Abia, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

On Monday, the Northern region will experience sunny skies and a hazy atmosphere. The North Central cities will have a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds throughout the day, and there is a possibility of a few thunderstorms in parts of Niger, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue.

In the South, a cloudy atmosphere with spells of sunshine is expected during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms are predicted in parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Ebonyi, Abia, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.

On Tuesday, the Northern region will have cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine. There are chances of thunderstorms in parts of Gombe, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Taraba during the afternoon and evening. The North Central cities will experience sunny atmospheres with patches of clouds throughout the day, and there is a likelihood of thunderstorms in most places during the afternoon and evening.

NiMet advises the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are expected. It is also important to stay hydrated, especially in the North where temperature values are still high. People with respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather conditions and ensure proper hydration.

Furthermore, NiMet advises airline operators to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from their office to facilitate effective planning in their operations.
