NiMet forecasts three-day dust haze across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a forecast for a three-day dust haze from Wednesday to Friday throughout the country.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, moderate dust haze is expected on Wednesday with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km in the northern region. Dust haze is also predicted over the North Central and Inland South, with patches of cloud in a hazy atmosphere over coastal cities during the forecast period.

On Thursday, moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km is expected in the North, while localized areas may experience visibility of less than or equal to 1,000 meters. The North Central region and Inland South will also experience moderate dust haze, while the coastal region will have a hazy atmosphere with a few patches of cloud.

Friday’s forecast indicates thick dust haze over the northern region throughout the day. The North Central region and Inland South will have moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km. The coastal areas will experience a hazy atmosphere with a few clouds.

NiMet advises the public to be cautious of the weather conditions, as dust particles are in suspension. It recommends the use of face masks where possible, especially for those with respiratory issues. It also suggests wearing warm clothing at night, particularly for children and the elderly. Special attention should be given to skin, eyes, and lips, and moisturizing is advised.
