In anticipation of the Eid-el-Kabir festival taking place on Wednesday, June 28, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has dispatched approximately 2,000 personnel to oversee road safety in Ogun State.

The FRSC’s Ogun Sector Command initiated the special operations for Eid-el-Kabir on Monday.

Ogun FRSC Spokesperson, Florence Okpe, said the operation was to enable the Muslim faithful and other Nigerians “to have a hitch free movement to celebrate with their families and friends by averting the chaos that characterized the road during such celebrations.” 

Okpe stated that the operation’s primary areas of focus would include dangerous driving, overtaking, speeding, failure to adhere to traffic lines, failure to wear seat belts, absence of passengers’ manifests, using mobile phones while driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol, among other infractions. 

“A total of two thousand (2000) personnel comprising Regular and Special Marshals have been deployed to critical corridors across Ogun State,” Okpe said in a statement made available to Vistanaij Media.

In preparation for the festive period, the FRSC offered advice to motorists who would be traveling to celebrate with their loved ones. They emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations during this time.

The FRSC urged travelers to ensure that their journeys were well-planned, including routine vehicle maintenance. Additionally, they emphasized the need to be cautious in construction zones where traffic might be diverted.

Furthermore, the agency appealed to motorists to embody the spirit of the season by responsibly sharing the roads, showing consideration for other road users, and obeying traffic rules. These measures would contribute to safer and more harmonious travel experiences for everyone during the festive period.

Okpe warned that “any motorist apprehended flouting traffic rules may be treated as driving dangerously and could be prosecuted.”

She provided reassurance that motorists would receive timely reports on the traffic situation to help them have a smooth travel experience.
