Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, a former Nollywood actor turned clergyman, has sparked controversy online by mocking South Africans using the popular song “Water” by Tyla.
As widely known, the Super Eagles emerged victorious in the semi-final against South Africa. The match ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes, but the Super Eagles secured a 4-2 victory in the penalty shootout.
In an attempt to console South Africans, Pastor Jimmy created a remix of Tyla’s song “Water” dedicated to them. He acknowledged their commendable performance but emphasised that Nigerians had to emerge as winners.
He mentioned that if there was any solace for their loss, it would be the Grammy-winning song “Water.” Additionally, he assured them of his prayers.
“My fellow Nigerians, listen first of all South Africans, well done, the boys played a good game but at this point, it’s time for the boys to go to sleep. It’s your bedtime but as you go to sleep, this song comes to mind, ‘You have played, You have missed now, you have lost your breath, you need water’. But if there is any consolation it is Grammy water.
But you know what we would be praying for you, as you go for the third place.
But you know what my Nigerians, God no go shame us. We are taking the Cup. We are bringing it home. We are the Super Eagles, we keep flying”.
Numerous celebrities, such as Deyemi Okanlawon, Juliana Olayode, Omowunmi Dada, Uche Jombo, and others, flooded his comment section with their responses.
