Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, speaking on behalf of four Southwest governors, announced their commitment to establish a joint burial committee in collaboration with the family of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.

The governors expressed their condolences during a visit to Akeredolu’s family on Friday.

Governor Akeredolu passed away in Germany on Wednesday after a battle with prostate cancer. The governors involved in the joint committee are Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who was represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal.

Governor Abiodun, addressing the media after signing the condolence register, stated that the joint committee would soon be established to work closely with the family and collaborate with the Ondo State government to ensure a dignified burial for the late governor.

He expressed their shock and sorrow over Akeredolu’s passing, highlighting his influential role as the Chairman of the South West Governors Forum and the Southern Governors Forum. The governor praised Akeredolu’s courageous leadership and his unwavering advocacy for the return of the presidency to the South. The governors extended their prayers for the forgiveness of his sins and strength for his wife, children, the people of Ondo State, and the government to cope with the loss.

The late Governor Akeredolu’s contributions, particularly in revitalizing the Southern Governors Forum, were remembered, and his absence was deeply felt by all. The Southwest governors emphasized their solidarity with the family, people, and government of Ondo State, expressing their heartfelt condolences.
