The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to temporarily transfer executive powers to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The PDP expressed concerns about the economic standstill caused by the governor’s prolonged absence due to ill health.

Fatai Adams, the state chairman of PDP, voiced the party’s discontent with the current situation, emphasizing that Governor Akeredolu’s absence has resulted in economic stagnation in the state. Adams stressed the importance of ensuring smooth governance and urged the governor to delegate authority to his deputy.

Speaking at a press conference in Akure, Adams expressed apprehension about potential exploitation of the governance vacuum by certain elements within the government. He raised concerns about the lack of clear leadership in government affairs and highlighted the urgent need for effective leadership to address the current challenges.

Adams also expressed worry about the impact of the governor’s health challenge on the state’s finances, noting that resources are being exploited by various interest groups within and outside the government, negatively affecting development and the overall well-being of the state.

Reiterating the party’s call, Adams reminded Governor Akeredolu of his own advice to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua during his illness. He urged the governor to prioritize his health and follow his previous counsel by temporarily transferring power to his deputy.

Adams pointed out that Governor Akeredolu’s doctors have instructed him to stay away from his office and the state, indicating that he is currently not fit to handle state matters. In light of this, the PDP urged the governor to act in the best interest of the state and follow his own advice to ensure smooth governance by transferring power to the deputy governor.

Governor Akeredolu has been residing at his private residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, since returning from a medical vacation in Germany in September.
