The Kaduna State chapter of the Association of Retired Police Officers has announced its intention to stage a peaceful protest at the National Assembly due to President Bola Tinubu’s refusal to sign two bills concerning their interests.

The protest is focused on the non-assent to the bill that would remove the Nigeria Police from the Contributory Pension Scheme, as well as the bill for the establishment of the Nigeria Police Pension Board.

Following a meeting held in Kaduna on December 2, 2023, the Kaduna chapter of the association has resolved to participate in a peaceful protest at the National Assembly to express their grievances to the government.

The retired police officers believe that if these two bills are signed into law, it would bring positive changes to the lives of their members who served the country with passion, commitment, and dedication.

CSP Mannir Mohammed Lawal Zaria (retd), the chairman of the association, explained that letters notifying the authorities about the planned protest were dispatched on November 19, 2023, to the Inspector General of Police, Minister of FCT, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Chairman of the Police Service Commission.

He further stated that the association had given President Tinubu until November 25, 2023, to sign the two bills, but since they were not signed within the given timeframe, they felt compelled to embark on a peaceful protest.

“As the deadline of 25/11/23 had passed without the President signing the two Police bills into law, coupled with the hardship experienced by the retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme, the association decided to go on a peaceful protest,” said CSP Mannir Mohammed Lawal Zaria (retd).
