Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, who previously served as Commissioner of Budget and Planning under the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has been appointed as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by President Bola Tinubu.
This appointment comes as part of significant changes in the leadership of the CBN.
Additionally, President Tinubu has removed all the deputies who served under the former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, who is currently in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). During Emefiele’s tenure, the CBN had four deputy governors, including Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, who assumed the role of acting governor following Emefiele’s suspension on June 9, 2023.
The other deputy governors were Aishah N. Ahmad, responsible for the Financial System Stability Directorate; Edward L. Adamu, overseeing the Corporate Services Directorate; and Kingsley Obiora, responsible for the Economic Policy Directorate.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, officially announced the appointment of the new CBN deputy governors in a statement released on Friday. President Tinubu approved the nominations of the four new Deputy Governors, each serving a term of five (5) years initially, pending their confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
The other nominees, alongside Dattijo, include Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello. These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate, as per the standard process.
