One Person Killed by Gunmen in Edo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers are believed to have killed a man identified as Emmanuel Rufus in Edo State.

The incident occurred on Saturday along the Igarra-Ebilo Road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state, as reported by Vistanaij Media.

According to an anonymous source, the victim was traveling with two relatives in a Mercedes-Benz GLK when the gunmen emerged from the bushes and opened fire on the car.

Tragically, one of the victims lost their life during the attack, while the other occupants of the vehicle were abducted and taken into the nearby forest. The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the killing but clarified that it was not a case of kidnapping but murder.

SP Nwabuzor stated that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Igarra Division reported that they found one Emmanuel Rufus lying on the Igarra-Ebilo Road in Akoko Edo Local Government Area. The police and local vigilantes responded promptly to the scene, discovering the victim inside the car (with registration number BEN 303 GM) suffering from a gunshot wound.

The body of the deceased was subsequently taken by his immediate family for burial. Investigations into the matter are currently ongoing, and the authorities are actively pursuing the suspects who fled the scene.
