The media team of the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has been thrown into confusion by a trending audio of a leaked phone conversation between Obi and David Oyedepo, the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church.

The Head of the Obi-Datti Media Office, Diran Onifade, released a statement in Abuja on Sunday, dismissing the leaked audio of a phone conversation between Peter Obi and David Oyedepo as a deep fake and propaganda from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

However, a member of the media team, Keneth Okwonkwo, later confirmed the authenticity of the audio in a series of tweets on his Twitter handle.

Okwonkwo explained that the audio had been taken out of context by Obi’s opponents, and that the conversation was about soliciting the support of Christians in the South-West for the upcoming presidential election.

Obi had stated that it was a religious war and that if successful, they would not regret their support. The audio has caused controversy on social media, with some of Obi’s supporters claiming it is a forgery.

Onifade’s statement emphasized that Peter Obi has always advocated for voters to not base their decision on religion or tribe. The media team urged Nigerians to remain focused on taking back the mandate that they believe was freely given to Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed through legitimate means, despite the efforts of their opponents to discredit Obi through subterfuge and mischief.
