In a meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, Chief Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, a chieftain of the Labour Party, emphasized the importance of the newly-inaugurated members of the National Assembly from the Southeast prioritizing legislation that benefits all sections of the geopolitical zone.

Chinasa urged the federal legislators to set aside partisan differences and work together for the development of the Southeast region now that the elections are over. He specifically called for the establishment of a Southeast development commission to address the socio-economic and infrastructural challenges faced by the region.

According to Chinasa, the commission would play a crucial role in addressing the long-lasting effects of the civil war, including areas heavily impacted by bombs and erosion. Its establishment would contribute to the economic growth of the region and facilitate the construction of a free trade center for the five Southeast states. Furthermore, the commission would focus on developing internal railways and repairing inter-state roads such as Aba-Port-Harcourt and Ikot-Ekpene-ikwuano-Umuahia.

To expedite the realization of the commission, Chinasa suggested that all Southeast legislators collaborate by sponsoring a joint bill for its establishment. This collective effort would increase the chances of the commission being established more promptly and effectively.
