The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued an order to Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders to strengthen security measures across the country in preparation for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebration.

The directive was conveyed in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Monday in Abuja.

To ensure effective security, the IGP instructed CPs and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to deploy officers and resources of the Force diligently. Strategic locations, Eid prayer grounds, and recreational centers should receive thorough coverage to instill confidence among citizens and create a safe environment for fun seekers.

Egbetokun emphasized the importance of comprehensive assessments of areas prone to threats, rigorous stop-and-search procedures, and targeted raids on identified black spots. He urged officers to employ various anti-crime strategies to maintain peace and uphold public safety throughout the country.

The police boss reminded deployed personnel to exhibit professionalism, remain vigilant, and respect citizens’ fundamental rights while carrying out their duties with utmost decorum and alertness.

Egbetokun called on the public to abide by the law, follow security tips, and show respect to law enforcement agents deployed at strategic locations for the protection of lives and property.

Furthermore, the IGP extended his warm greetings to the entire Muslim Ummah as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. He encouraged Muslim faithful to embrace the spirit of the occasion, celebrate joyfully, and remain vigilant by promptly reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the police.
