Fani-Kayode Criticizes Iwuanyanwu, Calls Assertion of Igbo Development in Lagos a Falsehood

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Aviation Minister, has strongly rejected the statement made by Ohanaeze President-General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, regarding the development of Lagos State by the Igbos.

Fani-Kayode referred to Iwuanyanwu’s comment as a deceitful lie and a disingenuous falsehood.

Iwuanyanwu had stated that the Igbos were the pioneers and heroes behind the transformation of modern-day Lagos State. He asserted that the Igbo ancestors played a crucial role in making certain parts of the state habitable by transforming swampy areas.

In response, Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), maintained that Lagos State was never a slum before the arrival of the Igbos. He took to X to express his viewpoint, labeling Iwuanyanwu’s claim as a deceptive and self-serving lie.

Fani-Kayode emphasized several facts, including that the Yorubas are not “political rascals,” that Lagos is not a “no man’s land,” that the Binis did not “found Lagos,” and that Lagos was not a slum prior to the presence of the Igbos. He cautioned against being misled by historical revisionists and urged a focus on accurate historical knowledge.
