FFK Dismisses Calls for Tinubu to Fire Minister Matawalle as Fruitless Pursuit in Corruption Case

Femi Fani-Kayode, an APC chieftain, has criticized those advocating for the removal of Minister Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence and former governor of Zamfara State.

In a statement issued on Friday, the former Minister of Aviation stated that those urging President Bola Tinubu to dismiss Matawalle based on allegations against him were simply chasing unfounded claims.

It is worth noting that the state government recently accused the former governor of embezzling billions of Naira intended for a cargo airport, leading to calls for his removal from President Tinubu’s cabinet.

Responding to the allegations, FFK labeled them as unverified and asserted that they were sponsored and orchestrated by Matawalle’s adversaries in Zamfara, aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

The statement read, “The individuals urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove my friend and brother, Bello Matawalle, the former Governor of Zamfara State, from his position as the Minister of State for Defence, are embarking on a futile pursuit.”

“I make this statement because, firstly, the baseless allegations leveled against him are false and are nothing more than part of a well-funded and well-planned scheme by his enemies in Zamfara State to discredit and undermine him.”

“Matawalle was the first Governor in the North West to align himself with President Tinubu long before the presidential campaign even began, and he played a significant role in building trust between the North and South West.”

“He worked tirelessly and diligently day and night to achieve this, and I can attest to that fact.”

“It is absurd to think that President Bola Tinubu would contemplate removing him from his cabinet based solely on the unsubstantiated allegations being circulated about him, especially after he has shown unwavering support and loyalty.”

“Those targeting Matawalle and seeking his downfall are striving in vain.”

“I have known him for many years; he is an inherently good man, and he will excel in his role as the Minister of State for Defence.”
