Enugu State recently hosted the swearing-in ceremony of 1,600 corps members belonging to the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream one set, who have been assigned to the state for their mandatory one-year national service.

The event took place at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu state, as announced by Gladys Adama, the NYSC Coordinator for the state.

Adama mentioned that more corps members are still arriving at the camp. She encouraged the newly sworn-in members to actively engage in all camp activities to ensure a successful service year. The coordinator highlighted that the orientation exercise would provide them with valuable opportunities to acquire vocational skills and establish their own businesses, thereby avoiding the need to search for jobs upon completion of their national service.

Expressing appreciation, Adama commended the Enugu State Government for its consistent support of the NYSC scheme within the state. She appealed for further assistance from the government in upgrading the camp facilities, providing operational vehicles for corps member inspections, and subsidizing the feeding expenses of corps members during their orientation.

Inaugurating the three-week orientation program, Governor Mbah of Enugu State urged the corps members to unite and avoid actions that could lead to division. Represented by Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, Mbah advised them to resist those who seek to disrupt the peace and harmony of society.

“The lesson we have learnt from the bitter civil war is that we must resist those who hate us and make a conscious effort to diminish those things that divide us,” he said. 

The governor emphasized that the state government will enhance its collaboration with NYSC to implement youth-oriented programs aimed at providing skills acquisition training and eradicating poverty.

He urged the corps members to demonstrate the utmost loyalty, dedication, discipline, and commitment to national ideals.

The governor assured that his administration will thoroughly consider the NYSC’s request concerning the challenges faced at the orientation camp in Awgu.

In the earlier part of the ceremony, the oath of allegiance was administered to the corps members by the Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice Raymond Ozoemena.

Represented by Justice Anthony Onovo, Ozoemena urged the corps members to abide by the law throughout their service year and beyond.
