EFCC Arrests 49 Internet Fraudsters in Ekiti and Oyo States

On June 23, 2023, the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) carried out a successful operation leading to the arrest of 47 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud.

The arrests took place in the Ikere Road and Iworoko areas of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, following intelligence received about their alleged involvement in cyber fraud activities.

Among the suspects apprehended were Adeyemi Joshua Adeniran, Ajaye Redmond Damilare, Nwaji Mathew, Jegede Boluwaji Victor, Oyetunji Sunday Wole, Damilola Awopetu Ayomide, and Ajayi Temitope Ayomide. During the operation, law enforcement officials also seized various items, including 15 luxury cars, 16 laptops, 77 mobile phones, and other incriminating documents.

In a related development, the Oyo State Police Command apprehended two individuals, Emiola Usman and Kamorudeen Quayum, for their involvement in cybercrime. The Oyo State Police Command subsequently handed over the suspects to the Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC for further investigation.

The EFCC has stated that once their investigations are concluded, the arrested individuals will face charges in court. These concerted efforts by law enforcement agencies aim to combat internet fraud and bring perpetrators to justice, promoting a safer digital environment for all.
