The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has made a fervent call for a nationwide protest in response to the recent increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.

This protest comes in the wake of the sudden surge in fuel prices, with rates escalating from N537 to N620 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and across various regions of the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the President General of COSEYL, Goodluck Ibem, strongly condemned this development as an act of cruelty on the part of the authorities. The group pointed out the immense hardship being endured by Nigerians due to the removal of fuel subsidies. The COSEYL expressed their concern that citizens are already grappling with the challenges posed by the previous fuel price of N520, only to face another increase to N617, which has been implemented in some states, merely two months into President Tinubu’s tenure.

The statement called on all Nigerians, especially the youths, to “come out enmasse for a protest against this evil and wickedness brought upon Nigerians by the present government. Nigerians can no longer breathe again in their own country.

“The time to liberate Nigeria from her oppressors is now. We must march on the streets of the 36 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja until the fuel price is reversed to its old price of N198 per litre”.
