Tinubu Welcomes Super Falcons Striker Asisat Oshoala in Lagos

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu and Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, welcomed Asisat Oshoala, the Super Falcons striker and winner of the 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, to Lagos.

President Tinubu and the First Lady congratulated Oshoala on her remarkable achievement of winning the African female footballer of the year award for the sixth time. They commended her for her outstanding contributions to women’s football on the continent.

The President expressed pride in Nigerian women, highlighting their achievements not only in football but also in various fields worldwide. He acknowledged the excellence, tenacity, ingenuity, and resilience demonstrated by Nigerian women, citing examples such as star sprinter Tobi Amusan and prominent figures like media mogul Ms. Mo Abudu and the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who were listed among Forbes’ ‘2023 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.’

President Tinubu and the First Lady assured Oshoala of the nation’s continued support, not only for her but also for other Nigerian women who strive for excellence in their respective paths.

After the warm reception, Oshoala expressed her gratitude to the President and the First Lady for the opportunity to present her award to them. She acknowledged the President and the First Lady’s support during the previous World Cup, where they intervened and provided assistance to the team, even after the competition.

The meeting between President Tinubu, the First Lady, and Asisat Oshoala reflects the appreciation and recognition of Oshoala’s achievements in football, as well as the government’s support for Nigerian women in their pursuit of excellence.
