President Bola Tinubu visited Maiduguri on Monday to inaugurate a fleet of 107 mass transit vehicles, which included 50 electric taxis acquired by the Borno State Government.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his forward-thinking policies and projects that prioritize the well-being of the people. He also revealed that the Federal Government has plans to establish a plant to support the production of electric vehicles, aiming to boost employment opportunities and improve transportation systems.

Governor Zulum expressed his motivation for the project, citing a directive from the President to governors following the removal of fuel subsidy. The deployment of 50 electric taxis in Maiduguri marks a significant milestone in Nigeria as it aligns with the urgent need to address climate change.

The fleet of vehicles inaugurated by President Tinubu consisted of 50 electric taxis, 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses, and 10 luxurious buses, according to Vistanaij Media reports.

In addition to the vehicle inauguration, President Tinubu paid a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, during his first official visit to the state. He also declared the annual Chief of Army Staff Conference open during his visit.
