On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had a private meeting with Ola Olukoyede, the newly confirmed chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Olukoyede’s confirmation took place after his nomination by President Tinubu and subsequent screening by the Senate.

The confirmation of Olukoyede followed the resignation of former EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, who was suspended by President Tinubu due to alleged abuse of office. During the confirmation process, which lasted for three hours, Olukoyede faced pertinent questions, particularly regarding financial crime issues. Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, raised concerns about potential clashes of responsibilities between the EFCC and other similar agencies, specifically the National Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

In addition to Olukoyede, the Senate also confirmed Mrs. Halima Shehu as the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Programme Agency (SIPA).
