President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a meeting with the leadership of Chevron Corporation, an energy corporation, at the State House.

The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, January 23, was confirmed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Advisor to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, through a post on his official social media page.

According to Onanuga’s caption accompanying a photo he shared, Clay Neff, the President of Chevron International Exploration and Production (CIEP), led a team of Chevron executives in the meeting with President Tinubu. The team included Rick Kennedy, the outgoing Chairman and CEO of Chevron Nigeria, as well as his successor, Jim Swartz. Chevron, a company with a 60-year presence in Nigeria, is a significant supplier of natural gas to the domestic market.

Onanuga highlighted Chevron’s investment initiatives, such as the development of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP), spanning 700km and done in partnership with ECOWAS, which allows Nigeria to supply gas to Benin, Togo, and Ghana.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Chevron team for their visit and acknowledged the company’s social investments in the 600 communities where it operates. He recognized the importance of Chevron’s gas projects for Nigeria and climate change and emphasized the country’s interest in attracting investment for growth. The President called for a strengthening of the relationship between Chevron and Nigeria, leveraging the country’s abundant human capacity.
