The Elephants’ goalkeeper Youssef Fofana emerged as the hero, stopping Moussa Niakhate’s penalty, while Franck Kessie scored the decisive kick. Senegal’s Habib Diallo had given them an early lead, but a late penalty from Kessie levelled the score.
