Senegal’s winger Krepin Diatta faces potential disciplinary action after slamming the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as “corrupt” following Senegal’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations. The reigning champions were defeated on penalties by hosts Ivory Coast.

In an emotional outburst heard by reporters, Diatta accused CAF of corruption as he left the stadium in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast. Despite a 1-1 draw, Ivory Coast won the last-16 tie 5-4 on penalties.

Diatta expressed frustration over a non-awarded penalty to Senegal early in the second half, which he believed impacted the game’s outcome. He highlighted an incident involving Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr and Ivory Coast’s Odilon Kossounou in the box, which the referee did not review with the VAR.

The Monaco winger criticised the inconsistency in VAR decisions, especially contrasting it with a penalty awarded to Ivory Coast after a VAR check.

The outcome left Senegal feeling aggrieved, with Diatta lamenting the impact on the competition.

Ivory Coast advances to the quarter-finals, set to face Mali or Burkina Faso in Bouake on Saturday.
