In Kano State, hundreds of Nigerien citizens have come together to peacefully protest against the recent coup that transpired within their home country.

Alongside this demonstration, they have voiced their endorsement of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sanctions imposed on Niger.

While these residents have vehemently criticized the military coup d’état that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum’s democratically elected government, they have simultaneously cautioned against any military intervention within their nation. Leading the protest on Saturday, Lawalli Mamman Barma, the group’s Chairman, urged the leaders of the military coup to release President Mohamed Bazoum, his family, and any other individuals purportedly taken captive during the military intervention that occurred on July 16, 2023. This appeal is made with the stipulation that no conditions be attached to their release.

He said, “We demand without condition, the release of the president of Niger Republic, as well as his family and all other kidnapped persons.”
