The police authorities in Ebonyi State have issued a directive to restrict human and vehicular movement in the five Local Government Areas of Ebonyi South Senatorial District during the upcoming Senatorial by-election.

The Acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, made this announcement during an interactive session with journalists in Abakaliki on Thursday.

According to DSP Ukandu, the movement restriction will be in effect from midnight on Friday until 6 pm on Saturday. The restriction applies to the areas of Afikpo, Edda, Ivo, Ohaozara, and Onicha.

He further explained that security agencies will be closely monitoring and enforcing security measures until the election is concluded. However, individuals providing essential services such as INEC staff, accredited media personnel, and election observers are exempted from this restriction. They will need to present valid means of identification.

The primary objective of this movement restriction is to ensure public order, maintain the safety of the electorate, and assist the security agencies in effectively policing the electoral process, thus deterring any attempts to disrupt it.
