Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has addressed the youth of the Nigerian Delta region, urging them to refrain from engaging in acts of vandalism against NDDC projects and federal government assets in the area.

He emphasizes the need for peaceful coexistence and encourages the Federal Government to prioritise initiatives that generate employment opportunities and improve the quality of life for the region’s youth.

During an official visit to the Government House in Owerri, Governor Uzodimma received the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh, and his team. In addition to his appeal for non-violence, the governor calls for a thorough audit of all abandoned projects scattered across the states under the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Governor Uzodimma further suggests strengthening the Amnesty Programme of the ministry to ensure that the region’s people, particularly the youth, receive equitable benefits from the program. He also urges the minister to effectively allocate and utilise federal funds designated for the region to enhance infrastructure development in accordance with the area’s needs.

Expressing his commitment to collaboration, Governor Uzodimma pledges ongoing support and partnership with the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, NDDC, and other agencies under its purview to achieve the desired objectives. He challenges the ministry and NDDC to prioritise the documentation and completion of abandoned projects, asserting that the region’s development will significantly progress once these projects are successfully finalised.

During the meeting, Minister Momoh explains that his visit aims to inspect ongoing projects of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development Area and the Niger Delta Development Commission, as well as seek increased partnership and cooperation from the governors of the nine states in the region.
