Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has signed a legislation that raises the retirement age for teachers employed by the state.
The new law extends the retirement age from either 35 years of service or 60 years of age to 65 years.
The governor expressed his belief that this new law would serve as a motivating factor for teachers in public schools across the state. He emphasized that with the additional five years, teachers are expected to utilize their time effectively and work harder to provide the best quality of education for the children of Imo State, aiming to graduate them as the best in Nigeria.
Governor Uzodimma described this extension of retirement age as a “value addition” and urged teachers to exhibit more commitment and dedication to their profession. He congratulated them on the new law and highlighted that its purpose is to foster a sense of job security among teachers while encouraging them to be more effective and efficient in their duties.
By enacting this legislation, the Imo State government aims to provide teachers with job security, inspire their dedication, and ultimately enhance the overall quality of education in the state.
