The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to suspend their planned strike, which was originally scheduled to commence on Wednesday. This resolution was reached on Monday night following a meeting between representatives of the Federal Government and the Organised Labour.
The primary topic of discussion during the meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, was the removal of fuel subsidy. Femi Gbajabiamila, the newly-appointed Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, confirmed the outcome of the meeting to State House correspondents.
Gbajabiamila read a communique revealing that an agreement had been reached between the NLC, TUC, and the team established by President Bola Tinubu to address the issues arising from the subsidy removal. As part of the agreement, a joint committee comprising the Federal Government, TUC, and NLC will be established. This committee will review any proposed wage increase or award, as well as establish a framework and timeline for implementation.
Earlier in the day, the National Industrial Court had issued a restraining order, prohibiting the Organised Labour from embarking on any form of strike.
