The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police command has stated that it is not aware of the scheduled nationwide protest organized by the labour unions.

It has been reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have designated February 27 and 28 for a mass protest across the country in response to the escalating economic hardship.

According to sources, the organised labour began mobilizing its members nationwide for the upcoming protest on Monday.

The protest is deemed necessary by the labour unions due to the prevailing cost of living crisis in the country, especially among civil servants.

Expressing concerns about the security situation in the nation’s capital, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, informed Vistanaij Media that the police command will have personnel on the ground during the protest to prevent any breach of the law.

However, she stated that the command has not received any information regarding a planned protest in the territory.

The PPRO stated, “I wish to note that the FCT Police Command is not aware of any intending protest. However, measures will be put in place to ensure that hoodlums do not exploit any activities of the NLC to disrupt the peace in the FCT if the protest does occur.”
