Peter Obi shares heartfelt tribute to late Access Holdings CEO, Herbert Wigwe

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, has expressed his deep sadness over the tragic passing of Roosevelt Herbert Wigwe, the Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings.

Obi revealed that he had a close friendship with Wigwe and even assisted him in preparing for his traditional wedding.

Wigwe, along with his wife Chizoba, their son, and lawyer Abimbola Ogunbanjo, tragically died in a helicopter crash on Friday. The helicopter was en route to Las Vegas when it crashed near the border between Nevada and California.

In a post on X, Obi shared his memories of his connection with Wigwe, recalling the time he helped him prepare for his traditional wedding. He described Wigwe as a determined and forward-thinking individual who led Access Bank to great heights alongside his brother Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede.

Obi also highlighted Wigwe’s philanthropic efforts in the areas of health and education. He commended Wigwe for establishing Wigwe University, which showcased his deep commitment to education as a catalyst for development.

The tragic loss of Wigwe serves as a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of living with purpose. Obi extended his heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Wigwe’s wife and son during this difficult time.
