Omokri: Emefiele and Bawa predict Tinubu to be the most progressive president in Nigeria’s history

Reno Omokri, a prominent socio-political activist, has expressed his belief that President Bola Tinubu is quickly emerging as the most progressive president in Nigeria’s history, despite being in office for only two weeks.

Omokri highlighted that Tinubu’s recent actions have contributed to this perception, solidifying his image as a leader driving progressive change in the country.

However, Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, also mentioned that he believes the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will ultimately prevail over Tinubu at the tribunal, despite the positive start to Tinubu’s presidency.

After taking office, Tinubu wasted no time in making significant changes. He made the decision to remove Godwin Emefiele from his position as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as well as Abdulrasheed Bawa from his role as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These swift actions showcased Tinubu’s willingness to make bold moves and assert his authority in key institutions.

In addition to these personnel changes, Tinubu also made notable policy decisions. He abolished the fuel subsidy, a move that had been a topic of contentious debate in Nigeria. Furthermore, he demonstrated his commitment to education by signing the student loan bill, which aimed to improve access to higher education for Nigerian students. Lastly, Tinubu intervened in labor matters by preventing the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) from carrying out a nationwide strike, showcasing his firm stance on issues affecting workers’ rights.

Overall, Tinubu’s early actions as president have positioned him as a leader who is driving significant changes and has the potential to be regarded as one of the most progressive presidents in Nigeria’s history.

“Nigerians are not hard to please. Apart from those using politics to hide their secessionist agenda, most Nigerians seem to be happy with his performance thus far. And his popularity is high right now.

“Except you are not being honest with yourself. If he continues this way, even the secessionist agenda will be defeated by good governance in a way that it could not be militarily vanquished by General Buhari.

“For those who understand Yoruba, President Tinubu is fulfilling the meaning of his moniker, Asiwaju. The PDP and Waziri Atiku Abubakar would have been better.

“Whatever the Supreme Court rules, we will accept. But at the end of the day, whether PDP or APC, all we want is good governance for Nigeria.”
