The Nigerian Army has firmly dismissed the rumours circulating about a possible coup against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labeling them as “fake news.”

Reports emerged on Sunday, though not from Vistanaij Media, suggesting that the presidential guards were on high alert due to suspicions of a coup plot in Nigeria. The report claimed that key brigades were being closely monitored, with Col. Adebisi Onasanya, the Commander of the Presidential Guards Brigade, holding meetings with Tinubu and his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

However, the Nigerian Army responded by sharing one of these reports on their official page and unequivocally stating “FAKE NEWS.”

Tensions have been running high in Nigeria amidst the current economic hardships, including rising inflation and the high cost of living caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira under President Tinubu’s administration.

In response to these speculations, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, previously issued a stern warning against calls for a coup and urged people to refrain from such actions.
