Nigerian Army Eliminates Notorious Terrorist Leader Maikusa

The Nigerian Army has announced the successful neutralisation of Maikusa, a well-known terrorist leader and the second-in-command of a terrorist cell in Katsina state. The operation took place during a counter-insurgency mission in the Kurfi and Safana Local Government Areas of Katsina State on March 4, 2024.

According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the fierce operation resulted in the elimination of Maikusa and three other terrorists, as well as the clearance of terrorists’ hideouts in the affected areas.

During the operation, the troops faced strong resistance from the violent extremists. However, they displayed great bravery and overpowered the terrorists, forcing some to flee in disarray. As a result, two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 65 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, a locally fabricated gun, and a camouflage uniform were recovered by the troops.

In addition to neutralising Maikusa and his associates, the Nigerian Army continued with clearance operations, destroying terrorists’ camps in various villages including Wurma, Shaiskawa, Yauni, Dogon Marke (Kurfi LGA), as well as Ummadau and Zakka (Safana LGA).
