LP Urges Tinubu to Seek Assistance to Address Economic Hardships in Time

The Labour Party (LP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to seek help in addressing the growing cost of living and hardships faced by Nigerians before they become unmanageable.

The LP expressed deep concern over the crisis of food shortages that millions of Nigerians have been grappling with since the beginning of the year.

In a statement issued by Obiora Ifoh, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, the party also urged Tinubu to advise his aides against making inflammatory and unreasonable comments that could offend the sensibilities of Nigerians.

The opposition party emphasized that Tinubu and his team should acknowledge that they have run out of ideas and request assistance, as no amount of propaganda can change the fact that more Nigerians are falling below the poverty line.

The LP lamented the exponential increase in prices of essential commodities such as rice, garri, flour, and protein since January. They highlighted that this has resulted in a sense of despondency across the nation, leading to an increase in crime, particularly among the youth, and a rise in suicide cases.

The statement criticised the government for either lacking ideas on how to address the unfolding catastrophe or for continuing to act as if it is still in campaign mode. The LP emphasized that this is not the time for politics and urged for a governance approach based on sound judgment.

The LP further noted that amidst the economic turmoil, the current administration has increased spending on the lavish lifestyles of elected officials, and corruption among government officials has worsened.
