The Nigeria Police have apprehended two individuals, including a local government chairman, in connection with an alleged conspiracy to assassinate the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Hycenth Dajoh.

In a statement released by the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, it was revealed that investigations indicated the involvement of the local government chairman in soliciting the services of a militia group to carry out the assassination plot against Dajoh.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the Local Government Chairman allegedly contracted a militia with the sinister intention of eliminating the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hycenth Dajoh,” the statement read.

Upon receiving credible intelligence regarding the planned assassination, the operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) swiftly took action. Both suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators as the inquiry progresses.
