The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has reported the arrest of 1,064 individuals between June 2022 and June 2023.

This information was conveyed in a statement issued by Sadik Maigatari, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, which was made available to the press on Saturday.

Among the arrested individuals, there were 1,001 males and 63 females. Additionally, the Command disclosed that during this period, a total of 7,530.813kg of illicit substances were seized. This included 5,228.673kg of cannabis, 2,096.837kg of psychotropic substances, 47.013kg of cocaine, and 65.24kg of heroin.

Mr. Maigatari further informed that the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction program had admitted a total of 96 clients during the same timeframe. Among these, 92 were males and four were females. Out of the total number, 68 clients have been discharged from rehabilitation, while 28 are still undergoing the process.

These figures highlight the ongoing efforts of the Kano State NDLEA Command in combating drug-related crimes and providing support for individuals struggling with substance abuse.

“We also conducted brief intervention on 1081 people, mostly males (701) and females (380). 

“In our prosecution unit, we charged to court a total number of 93 cases from June 26th, 2022, to June 26th, 2023, and secured 111 convictions.”

In addition, the Acting Public Relations Officer (Ag. PRO) emphasized that the Kano State Command currently has 126 pending cases awaiting resolution. This indicates the active pursuit of justice and the commitment of the Command to hold accountable those involved in drug-related offenses.

Furthermore, the Ag. PRO highlighted the success and efficacy of the Command’s adoption of the “War Against Drug Abuse” campaign program. This preventive approach has proven to be highly effective in raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society. By engaging in proactive measures, such as educational initiatives and community outreach, the Command is making significant strides in curbing drug abuse and its associated problems.

“This year, we achieved remarkable success in dislodging notorious drug joints and arresting dealers and users.

“Some of the joints we raided and dislodged include Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Bubbles Club, Kofar Na’isa, and many more.

“The creation of two additional area commands in Rano and Tudun Wada which has also enhanced our capability to crack down on drug abuse and trafficking in the state,” he said.
