The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of a suspected Indian hemp farmer in Sokoto State.

Mr. Adamu Iro, the Commandant of NDLEA in the state, informed reporters on Saturday that this was the first case of its kind in the state’s history.

The arrest was made in Sayinna village, Tambuwal Local Government Area, following a tip-off received by the agency. The suspect, identified as Anas Sani, had reportedly planted a foreign variety of cannabis sativa in his maize farm. Upon receiving the information, NDLEA operatives swiftly acted and uprooted the illicit plants from the farm.

The Commandant emphasized that after laboratory analysis of the uprooted leaves, the suspect would face prosecution. He expressed gratitude to the residents for their support and urged them to continue assisting the agency. Additionally, he warned that cultivating Indian hemp and engaging in the illicit drug trade carry severe penalties under the law.
