INEC has announced that it will commence a post-election review of the 2023 general election in July.

This decision was revealed in a statement by Mr. Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee. The statement was released following INEC’s regular meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

Okoye explained that conducting a review after elections is a longstanding practice of the Commission. The review will encompass all aspects of the electoral process, including activities conducted before, during, and after the elections. It aims to assess the performance and effectiveness of INEC’s officials at the national and state levels, as well as engage stakeholders in order to gain insights, learn lessons, and determine the way forward.

By conducting this review, INEC demonstrates its commitment to continuous improvement and the enhancement of the electoral process. It provides an opportunity to identify areas of strength and areas that require improvement, thereby ensuring more efficient and transparent future elections.

“The review will commence with a meeting of the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on July 4 and end with the Commission’s retreat on August 5,” he said.
