Gbajabiamila expresses regret over supporting Tambuwal’s candidacy for Speaker

During a meeting of the Joint Task – 10th Assembly, a coalition consisting of members-elect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties for the upcoming 10th National Assembly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, expressed regret over his previous support for Aminu Tambuwal’s emergence as Speaker in the 7th National Assembly. The meeting took place in Abuja on Wednesday night.

Gbajabiamila acknowledged the attempts made by previous speakership aspirants to oppose the chosen candidates of their respective parties and stated, “I regret it,” referring to his past backing of Tambuwal.

During the meeting, the coalition endorsed Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu, both anointed candidates of the APC, for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively, in the 10th House.

Before Gbajabiamila addressed the attendees, senator Godswill Akpabio, the APC’s candidate for the President of the Senate, entered the venue alongside the Speaker, made a brief statement, and then departed.

The meeting is currently ongoing at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
