In another violent encounter between Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a significant number of fighters from both groups have been killed.

The clash took place on the islands of Kandahar and Kaduna Ruwa, located on the shores of Lake Chad near the Nigerian border with Cameroon.

According to reports, the confrontation commenced late in the afternoon on Monday, January 15, 2024, when the ISWAP faction launched a fresh assault on the camp of Abou Hurayra, a leader of the Buduma faction of Boko Haram.

The ISWAP fighters, led by Ali Kwaya and Abou Hassaini from Kirta in Ngala LGA, arrived on seven canoes with armed fighters and engaged their rival group. The intense battle lasted for approximately an hour.

Sources indicate that the ISWAP faction suffered higher casualties, as only two out of the seven canoes carrying their fighters returned to Kirta.

This recent clash adds to the ongoing deadly confrontations between these two terrorist groups, resulting in the loss of numerous fighters from both sides.
