Anticipate Full Impact: NLC Warns Nigerians Regarding Planned Strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned Nigerians to prepare for the full consequences when it eventually initiates its proposed strike.

The ongoing negotiations between the labour union and the Federal Government have failed to reach an agreement regarding relief measures following the removal of fuel subsidy.

There is a likelihood that the NLC will declare an indefinite strike starting at midnight on Tuesday. Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, made this clear during an appearance on Arise Television on Sunday.

He stated, “Nigerians should anticipate the complete impact of an indefinite strike.”

The union leader argued that the Federal Government should have implemented necessary measures before removing the subsidy. He further explained, “However, within a few minutes, the subsidy was removed, and we demanded its reinstatement to the status quo so that discussions could take place. They responded by asking us to request palliatives and wage increases.

“But interestingly, the very things they urged us to request were what we asked for, but they couldn’t provide them, and they walked away from the negotiating table.”
