Comrade Sunny James, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Akwa Ibom State, has stated that the union will persist with its industrial action until the federal government addresses the workers’ demands.
Addressing the gathering of striking workers at the Idongesit Nkanga State Secretariat on Tuesday, in compliance with the national directive for an indefinite strike, James emphasized that the action would continue beyond tomorrow until the federal government provides a response.
He declared, “Workers in the state will ensure total compliance with the indefinite strike directive from the national body until the Federal Government meets all the workers’ demands.”
James further stated that the labor union in the state would visit various offices across the state to enforce the nationwide strike as directed.
As a result of the national strike action, banks, public institutions, and schools have remained closed in adherence.
At the state secretariat, labor leaders were observed playing drums while workers danced to the music.
At the federal secretariat, the gate was open, and a stationed operation quick response vehicle with security operatives remained on standby.
