The Abia State House of Assembly has taken a significant step by passing a resolution that urges both the State and Federal governments to grant approval for the establishment of a military post in Ihechiowa, which is located in the Arochukwu Local Government Area of the State.

The decision to pass this resolution was prompted by a Matter of Urgent Public Importance presented before the House by the Majority Leader, Hon Uchenna Okoro, who also represents the Arochukwu constituency. The matter focused on the escalating insecurity issues in that particular area of his constituency.

Hon Uchenna Okoro brought attention to a distressing incident involving the kidnapping, killing, and clandestine burial of a retired military officer in a shallow grave along the Uburu-Ihechiowa road. This gruesome incident served as a harrowing reminder of the security challenges prevailing in the region, prompting the Assembly to take action.

Furthermore, in response to the prevailing security concerns, the Abia Assembly also called upon the various security agencies operating within the State to intensify their efforts and engage in more frequent patrols in the area. The objective is to provide a heightened level of protection for the lives and properties of the people residing in that locality.

To address the specific security needs of the region, the Assembly directed their plea to the leadership of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia. They urged them to consider establishing a few checkpoints around key areas such as Obinto, Uburu, Amuvi, and Okobo in the Arochukwu Local Government Area. The implementation of these checkpoints aims to bolster security measures and create a safer environment for the residents.

The matter was formally presented and read out by the Speaker of the House, Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa, who presided over the proceedings. The urgency and gravity of the situation prompted the Assembly to take swift and decisive action in order to address the security challenges faced by the people of Ihechiowa and its surrounding areas.
