A Nigerian Individual Sets New Guinness World Record

Young Nigerian, Tonye Solomon, Achieves Guinness World Record in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Tonye Solomon, a talented individual from Nigeria, made headlines on 10 August as he set a remarkable Guinness World Record. The record involved climbing 150 steps on a ladder while skillfully balancing a football (soccer ball) on his head.

The Guinness World Records confirmed this impressive achievement, highlighting Tonye’s dedication and motivation to inspire others to strive for greatness. After two months of intensive training, Tonye successfully accomplished the record-breaking feat.

The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, extended his congratulations to Tonye for this remarkable accomplishment.

Such a great feat is inspiring, and it’s worth celebrating. We are proud of you Champ!” Mr Ewhrudjakpo said on Twitter, on Thursday.

Many Nigerian youths have been inspired by the recent world record set by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who achieved the longest cooking marathon. This has motivated them to make attempts at setting or breaking world records in various fields.

The enthusiasm for world records in Nigeria is evident as Guinness World Records reported receiving approximately 1,500 applications from Nigerians within a span of just two months.

Prior to Hilda Baci’s achievement, 15-year-old Vincent Okezie, a secondary school student, had already set four Guinness World Records in 2022. However, Vincent expressed a sense of being overlooked as Nigerians did not celebrate his accomplishments to the same extent as they did for Hilda Baci’s world record.

“I feel like my country has rejected me. Also, I feel not recognised. I asked myself if it were only women that are usually recognised in Nigeria because even though other boys won Guinness World Records in my academy, nobody celebrated them or recognised them,” he said.
