Transfer News: Mason Greenwood Likely to Rejoin Manchester United

Manchester United is poised for the return of Mason Greenwood, as the club anticipates the input of their forthcoming sporting director on his future prospects.

Greenwood, a 22-year-old forward, was loaned out to Getafe, a prominent La Liga club, in September 2023. This temporary move has been extended until the season’s end, following Greenwood’s commendable performance in Spain. His skills have drawn attention from major clubs including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Previously, Greenwood’s tenure at Manchester United seemed to have reached its conclusion. His last game for the renowned Premier League team was just before his January 2022 arrest on serious allegations, including attempted rape and assault. These charges were subsequently dropped in February 2023, clearing the path for Greenwood to continue his professional career. However, his return to Manchester United remained uncertain.

Fabrizio Romano, a respected football journalist, has stated that Manchester United will not make a final decision on Greenwood’s long-term future until a new sporting director is appointed. Romano, in a statement to GIVEMESPORT, emphasized that both Greenwood and Jadon Sancho, who is also due to return from a loan at Borussia Dortmund, will have their futures determined by the new director. He suggested that these decisions are likely to be deferred until late spring or early summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, having recently acquired a 25 percent share in Manchester United, faces significant decisions regarding the club’s management. Among these is the potential appointment of Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United as the new sporting director. Additionally, Omar Berrada is anticipated to join as CEO, transitioning from Manchester City. These appointments signify a phase of strategic restructuring at Old Trafford.
